About the Alta Mira Club
Alta Mira Club's purpose is to promote community cultural education and social welfare and to participate in all civic affairs.
Additionally, its purpose is to preserve the 1860 Ygnacio Peralta home, the first brick house built in Alameda County. The house was going to be torn down, but the Club purchased the property and building in 1926 for use as a clubhouse and to save the building from demolition. A series of fund-raising benefits, selling property which they had planned to build on, and the liberal donations of merchants and friends enabled the Club to accomplish this.
Alta Mira Club, organized in 1907, has a place in local history as the second oldest member of the Bay Area Federation of Women's Clubs.
